About Greno Woods

Five miles north of Sheffield City Centre, Greno Woods are next to the residential areas of Grenoside, Ecclesfield and Chapeltown and close to Parson Cross and Foxhill.

Prior to being purchased and managed by the Trust, they had been managed for the purpose of coniferous timber production for the last 50 years, though not intensively in recent years.

The woods have a PAWS classification (Plantation on an Ancient Woodland Site) and are an important biodiversity resource. The woods also contain a Scheduled Ancient Monument (a Romano-British field system).

The Trans Pennine Trail runs through the woods from Grenoside to Penistone and is popular with wheelchair users, families on bikes and as an easy walk route.
