The Wildlife Trusts Sheffield & Rotherham
We are in the process of establishing a new mountain bike trail on the northern edge of the heath. This will replace the current trail which runs through the middle of the heath. We are re-routing this to reduce disturbance to heathland wildlife and to allow the heath to be fenced for conservation grazing. We hope to complete this new trail by the end of March (2012) with a view to hosting a mountain bike race in the Spring.
Our plans for mountain bike trails have been developed in conjunction with Ride Sheffield and are the product of much thought, planning and local consultation.
Amongst our main priorities is the development of clearly sign posted mountain bike trails, where users will be free to experience the challenging tracks and trails of Greno Woods whilst avoiding conflict with other woodland users.
We would like to make mountain biking a popular and sustainable activity in Greno Woods and aim to create a short circuit in the woods that would use largely existing trails.
